StevePike enhanced
PikiPiki v1.62 to produce the script which drives this site, making
PikiePikie an appropriate name for this new
WikiEngine.
Development of
PikiePikie began in December 2000.
PikiePikie is written in the
PythonLanguage.
See ImplementedPikieEnhancements for details of the development effort to date, PlannedPikieEnhancements for details of what is pending and PikieSites for a list of sites using this WikiEngine.
Any suggestions you may have for further enhancements will also be considered - please register them on PikiePikieRequests. And of course, you may encounter a bug - if so, please report it on PikiePikieBugs.
Does the world really need another WikiWiki clone?
You might wonder why a new PikiPiki incarnation has been used as the basis for this and other sites, rather than MoinMoin. Well, some possible explanations include:
- The code of PikiPiki is very simple and easy to understand. This makes it an ideal starting point for experimentation.
- Site presentation is visually very 'clean'. MoinMoin is definitely more powerful but adds a fair bit of visual overhead to the displayed web pages to support its extra functionality.
- PikiPiki is no longer supported, so the code is frozen. This means that I am not trying to add my modifications to a shifting code base.
- I'm a programmer. I couldn't just install and use a ready-made system, could I? -- StevePike
