A Wiki Engine is the underlying CGI script that drives a site such as this one, translating requested pages from raw text to HTML and supporting edit operations. There are quite a few Wiki's about, and there are links to a few on the
InterWikis page.
Wikis support interactive web sites, where multiple authors can easily modify the content of the site. They are also great in combination with a personal web server for keeping notes.
